Faeriegnome
Faeriegnomes are ancient creatures, tiny, quiet, and shy by nature. They were believed to be of simple gnome ancestry, but they predate even the earliest gnomish records. They are much smaller than a gnome, but larger than the leaf faerie. Like the gnome, adult faeriegnome males tend to sport long hair and beards. But more like the faerie, their facial features are much fairer, with the female faeriegnomes often being described as very attractive. Their true origins have never been known; even the precise name of their ancient kindred is unknown. Most experts on magical beings and creatures believe they belong to a very ancient race of ground or earth faerie. This rings true, as it accounts for their strong inclination to settle far inland, making their homes in low-lying areas, and often burrowing their dwellings into the ground or at the base of trees.
